VICE DIRECTOR
The Green European Foundation (GEF) is currently seeking a full-time Vice Director.
About GEF
The Green European Foundation (GEF) is the European-level Green political foundation. It is a pillar of the
European green movement, together with the Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament and the
European Green Party. Our mission is to offer a platform and spaces for debates, training, research, and
new forms of collaboration within and beyond the Green family to foster a more democratic, open and just
Europe. GEF is funded by the European Parliament as a European political foundation seeking to support
and enable citizens to participate in full respect of pluralism and in an active manner in European politics.
GEF is both a Brussels-based organization and a network of national member foundations and partners.
GEF also works through projects, debates and training initiatives with many other stakeholders from
academia to civil society, from business to politics. In sum, GEF is an enabler, a facilitator or a connector for

About the role of Vice Director
The Vice Director is responsible for the operational, legal and financial management and administration of
the Green European Foundation (GEF). The Vice Director focuses on ensuring the sustainability of GEFs
organisational resources and identifying the conditions that must be in place for GEFs implementation of
its Strategy and Work Programme. The Vice Director aims to ensure a professional and sustainable
management of GEFs operational and financial resources, whilst complying with the legal framework
under which GEF operates.
In sum, the Vice Director is responsible for three main areas of work:
1) Oversight of the grant management in terms of budget, finance, and legal affairs
2) Oversight of the operational and financial implementation of the annual work programme
3) Oversight of the administration of the organisational and human resources
The Vice Director works with the Political Director and the team to ensure GEF achieves the goals and
strategic objectives set out in its strategy and work programme. The Vice Director responds to the Board
of GEF, and works with various team members, national foundations, and other network members,
following the different responsibilities and tasks detailed below.
The Vice Director position is a category III function as defined in the GEF Working Regulations.

Main responsibilities and tasks
Oversight of the grant management in terms of budget, finance, and legal affairs
o Supervision of the implementation of the European Parliament operating grant
o Annual budgeting, budget monitoring and adjustments
o Supervision of the annual audits and the grant reporting process
o Compliance with statutory, good governance and legal requirements
o Management of the co-financing/fundraising strategy
Oversight of the work programme operational and financial implementation
o Supervision of GEFs annual work programme implementation via its projects and
initiatives
o Responsibility for the operational and training needs of the GEF network of partners
o Compliance with the quality and legal requirements in the implementation of GEFs
work programme
o Development and monitoring of an impact assessment system of GEFs activities
Oversight of the organisation and human resources administration
o Management of human resources administration and payroll
o Oversight of recruitment processes
o Management of insurance, IT, tendering processes and requirements
Qualities and experience sought
At least 5-7 years work experience in similar roles;
Post secondary studies in management, economic, political or social sciences or other relevant
fields;
Proven record in programme management and impact assessment;
Proven record in corporate or not-for-profit budget, finance and audit management and
oversight;
Proven record in corporate or not-for-profit administration and legal oversight;
Proven experience in human resources administration and legal management;
Knowledge and interest for Green and European affairs;
Written and oral proficiency in English and in a second European language. Any additional
European language will be considered an asset;
Excellent writing and communication skills coupled with political sensitivity;
Innovative and out-of-the-box thinking;
High organisational and time-management skills;
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
Advanced interpersonal and social skills;
Ability to interact and lead positively to a team;
Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines;
Readiness to occasionally travel and adapt to flexible working hours.
What we offer
A full-time (38h/week) paid position, with a permanent duration contract (CDI under the Belgian
employment framework);
Competitive salary, based on GEFs salary scale, ranging from 5,000 to 6,000 Euros gross salary
per month under the Belgian employment framework;
Food vouchers amounting to 7 EUR/worked day;
Full reimbursement of public transport in Belgium;
Paid mobile phone subscription;
2 EUR/day home office allowance;

250 EUR/year eco-vouchers;
